Dance into May with Papis Pumpels

Papis Pumpels im Bodenseeforum

Schlager music isn’t really my thing, to be honest, but the group and their show were simply fantastic. Whether it was satire or meant seriously, who cares... Any strictly religious person would probably have run out of there screaming (regardless of their religion), seeing the way these guys celebrate life! Maybe they were also in such a great mood because it was the opening night of the tour, and they hadn’t been on the road for years — and perhaps they’re not actually too old for this shit after all...

Musically, the highlights for me were when the guitarist started playing Black Night by Deep Purple and the saxophonist played the solo from Baker Street... Just short excerpts, but absolutely phenomenal!

And the audience went completely wild. They knew all the songs by heart and sang along loudly, sometimes even taking over completely. That might also have something to do with the fact that the event was organized by a local carnival club — and those are notorious here in southern Germany anyway. It could also be that this is completely normal for any Schlager fan. Since I’m not one, I was really impressed. The only thing that was a bit overwhelmed was the drinks service — they really couldn’t keep up with the demand...
