La Traviata on the lake stage

Sonnenuntergang hinter der Seebühne

We were already a little worried that, after the long spell of hot weather we’ve just had, another thunderstorm might interrupt—or even prevent—the performance. And the weather was almost as unpredictable as the plot unfolding on stage. You kept asking yourself: Do they love each other, or don’t they...? Is it going to rain, or isn’t it...? Is she going to die, or isn’t she...? One big back-and-forth.

The audience reflected this perfectly, too, with a constant rustling as people kept putting on or taking off their rain capes, depending on what the weather was doing. And then there was the emotional roller coaster the story itself pulled you into... It was all such a wonderfully chaotic mess—just like that particular Asterix album that kept popping into my mind throughout the whole thing.
