A very likeable musician with a wonderfully unassuming personality and an equally unassuming style of music. He always gives his fellow musicians the opportunity to take the spotlight and never wanted to become a rock star. By his own account, he doesn’t really consider himself a true star either — at least, he probably doesn’t feel like one, and he certainly doesn’t behave like the stereotypical rock star, with all the excesses and escapades that tend to come with the territory.
In that sense, his guitarist almost stole the show from him on several occasions, playing solos that would have been worthy of David Gilmour.
But the real star of the evening was Leleka anyway — known from her Eurovision appearance representing Ukraine, and truly a joy to watch and listen to. We had already seen her earlier, happily skipping and dancing across Mainau, full of joie de vivre and seemingly so carefree — having escaped the horrors of war, soaking up the beauty of Lake Constance with every fibre of her being, only to give all that joy and energy back to the audience during the concert.
So the main act inevitably took a bit of a back seat — which, however, didn’t seem to bother him at all. And perhaps that makes him all the more deserving of appreciation.
